Chinese New Year — The Rabbit Strikes Back!

Chinese New Year is without question my favorite holiday. Most significantly, it is preoccupied with food — good food — lot’s and lot’s of food. The centerpiece of the holiday is a banquet feast of ten courses, each of which may include multiple dishes. Chinese New Year appeals to me, also, because there are neither religious nor patriotic aspects which, with most other holidays, tend to get in the way of a good meal. Keep reading →

“Here’s Looking at You, Kid”

Okay, so the meal that I am about to describe wasn’t strictly speaking kid, or baby goat, it was actually lamb. But it was eaten in Casablanca, the setting for Humphrey Bogart’s great film by the same name, in which he utters this famous line. The meal in question was served at a traditional Moroccan restaurant called La Fibule, which provides not only lavish spreads but breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. Keep reading →
